You’ve Heard The Saying

“It takes a village to raise a child.”  Let me modify this slightly.  It takes a village to mission in a distant place.   There are so many loving folks who have made this journey to Scotland possible.  You know who you are.  Thank you!  I am excited to serve in ministry here.  The signs, the food and the people have changed in my day to day, and I am thankful for the opportunity.   I must admit, even with the changes, there is plenty which remains the same.  My first visitor arrived today with her (almost) 3 year old boy in tow to discuss the details of the children’s events.  By the end of our visit, we shared the same laughter, the same Bible, and the same prayer.

It makes me wonder, how does God know where to send us?  How does He know when we are ready to step outside our comfort zones and send us in a different direction?   The answer is always the same.  God is God.  I know this journey is a wonderful reminder that God is leading.   “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom where is no variation or shifting shadow.” (James 1:17)  I guess you can say, I am dancing in The Light!

So as I begin this month in Scotland, where do I go from here?  I know the beauty of Christ is pressed into my being.  When we open our spirit and our lives to Christ, and act upon it, it is unveiled.  Not just for me but for everyone.  I anticipate I will encounter many beautiful people and events here in Westray.  When I do, I will simply say, Amen and act upon the beauty which Christ has shared with me.   It is given to me as a gift and I must respond.  From their song, “Beautiful”, the words of Michael and Teenie Harkas, Orkney’s own recordings artists, let’s me end in praise!

It’s a beautiful world, You have made. Whether the sky’s blue or gray.
It’s so beautiful, so beautiful!
In a calm or in a storm, we know your peace, we see your power
It’s so beautiful, so beautiful!
And it causes me to praise Your name.  You are the God who made all things and You’re beautiful.
And although You are almighty God, we still call you Abba Father.
You’re beautiful, so beautiful!

Awaken Our Hearts!
